Everyone in Mille-Feuille Academy has such interesting names! We have names from a variety of different cultures- but what does it mean?So leave a post to tell the world about your character(s) names. Some suggestions to include in your post(but feel free to add more): - Where does the name come from? Is it Greek? Is it French? Is it made up?
- What does the name mean? What does it signify?
- Why did you chose this name for your character?
Me first! My main character is Michelle Junko Princeton, though she's known to the world as Junko [June-Ko]. Junko is a Japanese name which means 'obedient child.' However, it's a bit of a crude name because of the harsh sound it makes when pronounced. I chose this name for two basic reasons: one, the Junko I was thinking about was hardly an obedient type of person (yay irony!), and two, even though the name has a respectable meaning, the sound of it is crude and jagged. Junko is a respectable person, but she's a bit rough around the edges. Princeton sounded like a good, snobby last name (Junko comes from a family of wealth and means), and I always thought Michelle was a pretty name. >.< Most of the thought went into her given name.

Oooh, me next.
For Edward, I chose the name as it means wealthy guard. I thought it fit well with his prince complex that he has. It's of Old English origin, which I thought was interesting but it's mostly just because it's a generic male name. As for Adam, also generic male name. Guildenstern, however, is a nod to Shakespeare's Hamlet, which I adore, as well as a reference to the fact that Edward's family isn't actually from France but are immigrants from somewhere else.
For Ricard? Ricard is a variant of Richard, which means powerful leader. I chose it because it's a huge contrast to the actual Ricard, who couldn't be less interested in leading. I though Richard didn't fit him, so I chose Ricard instead. Brady and Smith are, once again, generic names that I chose.

I don't know much about Korean names/people/culture except for the fact that they're pretty hot. So I had to rely on things I knew from the Koreans that were my friends. One of my friends' last names was Oh, and from what I understand it's fairly common. And I've always liked the name Andrew. Thus, Andrew Oh was born rather arbitrarily. But I didn't think it was quite enough for this new, bubbly, I-love-everyone person. He needed something that would make him different. Something that was bright and sunny, like him. It just so happened that I was drinking a glass of orange juice while I was thinking this. Jung, OJ's middle name, means righteous, and since OJ was very princely, I felt it fit pretty nicely :3 His friends call him OJ, because that's what he wants to be like: a tall, refreshing glass of liquid sunshine to brighten up your day. But those close to him like Junko or his little sister call him by his given name. Andrew is a different person from OJ; while OJ goes out of his way to make people happy, Andrew is just a regular guy with regular needs and regular problems.

Post by viljo erik tawast on Jan 23, 2011 23:12:36 GMT -5
Viljo Erik Tawast is a completely Finnish name that I came up with help from Vivian.
Viljo was selected after careful consideration for two reasons. First, the name sounded foreign, something that I wanted to emphasize. The character is meant to be distant from others emotionally and giving him a foreign or uncommon name was important. Perhaps more importantly, his name means "Resolute protector". Viljo, as he grows as a character, will be falling into the definition. How and why will be part of the story.
Erik is a finnish variation of Eric. Erik also makes me think of Odin for some odd reason and as Odin was a god who gave up one of his eyes for knowledge, it fit for the half-blind Viljo.
Tawast was a surname picked by Vivian that I happened to like. There is nothing special behind it.

Most of Noelle's name was mulled around as possible OC names (not necessarily for the RP) before hand.
Her first name, is a reference to Christmas, as her birthday's pretty close to there, and she loves winter and snow. It's a bit of a no-brainer, but I'd been mulling over using it as a character name, it just sounds nice.
Her middle name, Sini, is a Finnish name meaning 'blue'. I was trying to find some names with this specific meaning, and Sini came up as one of my favorites. Blue because it represents her personality; wistful, silent and maybe slightly lonely.
Her last name, Forrester, is from me trying to find some surname related to a forest or woods. Again, it was a bit easy to guess, but it still represents Noelle well, I think.

Post by ageha lili kuruizaki on Feb 1, 2011 1:39:46 GMT -5
'Ageha' is Japanese for "Swallowtail," as in a swallowtail butterfly. The literal word in Japanese for butterfly is "chocho," but Ageha is usually substituted instead (kind of like 'Monarch' in English). I liked the meaning, and thought it had an interesting sound, so I went with it.
'Kuruizaki' in Japanese means, "Flowers Blooming out of Season." I thought the meaning was intriguing, and since Ageha is a tad off-beat, I thought that it would fit her well.
I considered the thought that maybe the use of Japanese names might come off as a bit weaboo-ish, but couldn't choose anything else I liked, so in the end I choose two Japanese names that had more elegant meanings. The 'Lili' in the middle was a last second thought used to sort of bind the two names together.

Skylar is actually a rather old character of mine, and I recycled him for this RP. I'm glad I did. Skylar's name is mostly out of the blue, really. Or at least his first name is. I always found it a cute, slightly feminine name; a little suiting to Skylar's boyish personality. His original middle name was Marx; I don't know why I chose it, but I thought it tied the first and last names together. I now prefer Jude, which is of course a reference to the song by The Beatles. His last name, Elison, comes from one of my favorite books; Idlewild. Elison is a virtual professor whose programming goes haywire; and the professor was modeled after a very real man who certainly did not have the same murderous personality. I mostly just like the name. : p
Ellyllon's name came with a bit of research. Ellyllon is the name given to the Welsh elves; they are the small elves who haunt and inhabit groves and valleys. I thought the name was absolutely adorable and very pretty. Mary was most likely from Mary Weather, but I think I just needed a simple name to tie everything together. :3 Arthur is really nothing other than Mr. Weasely's first name, though I'm not sure it really means anything in relation to Ellyllon. xD

Charles William Watson Very English, very posh, very patriotic sort of name and it came about very randomly. Charles from the current Prince of Wales, Prince Charles. William from the several past King Williams. After all, Charlie comes from a noble lineage. And finally Watson - Dr. John Watson from Sherlock Holmes. I was deinfintely not thinking about the origins of the names while creating it - but it does roll off the tongue like a proper, English name, doesn't it? Name suited Charlie perfectly! He's a little posh, a little pompous from his upbringing - that accounts for the full English name, but he's also shy and childish so the nickname "Charlie" works too. And he's named after his father, Edward William Watson, like his brother who is Edward George Watson. Clearly, his mother's Austrian heritage played no aprt in his name...

I only had a vague outline of who I wanted my character to be when I named him- all I really had set out was that I wanted him to be half-Japanese on his mother's side. So, I asked my friends for a few name suggestions and if it should be Japanese or not- but they all told me to go with an English name, and eventually Aaron came up. The name is Hebrew in origin- think the Bible- and means "mountain of strength." Aaron's parents are depending on him to be a powerful person so it makes sense that they would name him something that would support this... Or- that sounds good, right?
Wright was chosen just... well... because I like the way the two names sound in tandem. It's actually Scottish in origin, even though his family is traditional English. Maybe there was some inter-marriage back there somewhere? ^_~
I also picked both of these names because they'd be a little easier for Japanese to pronounce- although I did give him the Japanese name of "Atsushi" just in case. The name means "pure ambition" which I thought was fitting- but I also chose it because I love Atsushi from Exile's voice. (Guilty of being a huge Exile fan...)
